Dr. Adriene Charles, Washington D.C. Department of Health
Dr. Adrienne Charles has worked for the District of Columbia since 2005. As a Medical Officer for the Department of Health, she evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients for sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) and counsels them on prevention of those diseases. Dr. Charles previously worked at a Veterans Administration Medical Center in the Midwest. There she cared for veterans of war, including Iraq.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Dr. Charles completed a Family Practice residency at Howard University Hospital in 2002.
Dr. Charles is a native New Yorker who strongly believes patient education leads to patient empowerment, better choices and ultimately to a healthier life. She is most grateful for the opportunity to work with the students of American University on this exciting project.
